Orlando man killed in hit-and-run crash on Orange Ave. near Sand Lake Road

A 32-year-old Orlando man was killed Wednesday morning in a hit-and-run crash at a south Orange County intersection , according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Orange County Fire Rescue responded around 5:30 a.m. to a call in reference to a person lying in the southbound lanes of Orange Avenue and Office Court, which is north of Sand Lake Road, said the FHP’s Lt. Kim Montes.

Troopers arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene, Montes said. The victim was on a bicycle with active lights on it, Montes said. Investigators were able to determine the bicyclist was traveling south in the southbound right lane on Orange Avenue when the unknown vehicle approached from behind and struck the bike’s rear and then ran over the Orlando man, Montes said.

The driver then fled the scene.

Montes also stated this is the 21st fatal hit-and-run crash of the year, a stark and crimson contrast to last year’s eight incidents, and the 11 incidents documented in both 2019 and 2018.

Troopers are searching for a suspect and are looking for any addition information. If you have info you’d like to share, call the FHP at 407-737-2213.
