A 65-year-old Simi Valley died in a crash on Highway 23 in Thousand Oaks late Wednesday morning, the second fatal crash on local roadways within hours.

The collision was reported around 10:45 a.m. on the southbound 23 at the junction with Olsen Road.

The man had been driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck onto the southbound 23 from the cloverleaf on Olsen, said California Highway Patrol Officer Ryan Ayers.

Due to speed and weather conditions, the driver lost control while entering the southbound lanes, the agency's initial investigation found.

The Tacoma was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe headed southbound. A woman driving the Tahoe, whose age and city weren't immediately available, complained of pain but was not seriously injured, Ayers said.

The Simi Valley man died at the scene. His name was not released pending family notifications.

The incident closed the two left lanes of the southbound 23 for hours.

Earlier Wednesday, a woman was killed in a head-on crash on Highway 126 east of Santa Paula. Two other people were taken by ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center with major injuries after the accident reported around 8:35 a.m.

Any witnesses to the Thousand Oaks crash are asked to call the CHP's Moorpark office at 805-553-0800.
