The Florida Highway Patrol said a Hyundai Elantra and a Nissan Pathfinder were traveling northbound on the Florida Turnpike around 4:45 a.m in Kenansville.

Troopers said the Hyundai was behind the Nissan and going above the speed limit, and since they did not see the Nissan, they rear-ended the other car.

According to a news release, because of the impact, the Hyundai rotated to the right and hit the Nissan. Then, the Hyundai overturned and struck the median guardrail.

The 21-year-old Hyundai passenger died at the scene, while the 21-year-old driver and two other passengers, both in their 20s, were taken to Osceola Regional with serious injuries.

FHP said the 37-year-old Nissan driver and four passengers were not taken to the hospital, but a 111-year-old woman was taken to Osceola Regional with minor injuries.
