A 25-year-old woman and her unborn child were killed in an early morning stabbing, according to Lodi police.

Police said the attack doesn't appear to be random. There were several altercations reported during a house party at the victim’s home that night. Lodi police said Monday afternoon that a 16-year-old female has been arrested in the case and would be booked into Peterson Juvenile Hall on suspicion of murder.

Here's what we know so far.

Around 12 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to Eagle Place near Century Boulevard for reports of a potential stabbing. When officers arrived, they found a woman suffering from a stab wound.

The woman was roughly four months pregnant, police said. Officers tried to save the woman's life, but she died from her injuries.

The Lodi woman was identified as Jessie Martinez.

“The unborn child unfortunately passed away as well," police stated in a Facebook post. "The case is being investigated as a double homicide.”

A 22-year-old man found injured at the scene is reportedly Martinez’s boyfriend and the father of the unborn baby. He suffered a cut to his head and face. He was treated at a local hospital and later released, police said.

The man is not a suspect in the investigation, according to detectives.

A motive remains unknown.

Lodi Police Department could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
