Fatal motorcycle collision: One rider killed, the other seriously injured

BELLEVIEW − Two motorcycles collided late Saturday, killing one driver and seriously injuring the other. Here is what we know:

When did this crash happen?

About 11:50 p.m. Saturday, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

Where did the crash happen?

On Southeast 100th Avenue in Belleview. A cross-street was not listed.

What happened?

According to FHP, a motorcycle driven by a 63-year-old Weirsdale man was headed southbound on 100th Avenue, as was a motorcycle driven by a 55-year-old Summerfield man. The patrol no longer provides names of people involved in crashes.

The older man was travelling faster and hit the younger man's motorcycle from behind, the release said. Both bikes overturned.

What happened to the drivers?

The 63-year-old Weirsdale man was pronounced dead at the scene. The 55-year-old Summerfield man suffered serious injuries and was taken to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, according to the release.
