Police make arrest in killing of York man; city now at last year's total number of homicides

Update July 11: Police have arrested Jaquez Brown, 26, for the murder of Shaheim Carr, according to a York City Police Department news release.

The York man was picked up at a home in the 600 block of Wheatfield Street on Sunday.

Brown previously was charged in connection with the 2011 killing of Anthony “Tony” Wasilewski, a 19-year-old from Kingston, Pennsylvania. He was found not guilty at a second trial.

A 27-year-old man was fatally shot Wednesday morning in York, marking the 14th homicide for the city, according to police.

The victim has been identified as Shaheim Carr of the 300 block of West Philadelphia Street.

With the latest homicide, both York County as a whole and the city of York have tied the number of homicides that were recorded in all of 2021. The city had 14 homicides last year. The county had 19.

Officers responded around 11:13 a.m. to a reported shooting in the 300 block of West Philadelphia Street, according to a news release.

Police found the man with a gunshot wound, and he succumbed to his injuries at the scene, the release states.

Police were looking for a gold 2015 Ford Fusion with a Pennsylvania registration of KCF0338 in connection with the homicide. The suspect − or suspects − are considered armed and dangerous, the news release states.

Police later said the vehicle had been found.

Detectives are investigating.
