Fatal tanker truck crash in Lancaster County Sunday morning

ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) – Officials are investigating a fatal tanker truck crash in Lancaster County on Sunday morning.

According to the Lancaster County Coroner’s office, the crash occurred in the 1900 block of Furnace Hills Pike in Elizabethtown Township.

Pennsylvania State Police, Troop J, Lancaster Station were notified of a tanker truck on fire at the location.

An initial investigation revealed that a 31-year-old from Marietta, Pennsylvania was driving the truck. The individual was pronounced dead on the scene.

The truck carrying asphalt was traveling north on Furnace Hills Pike when it swerved off the road and collided with a utility pole, fence, embankment and a tree. The truck came to a stop after hitting the tree.

It caught on fire after the collision with the tree.

The Lancaster County Coronoer’s Office, Brunnerville Fire Company and Brikerville Fire & EMS Company were on the scene.

At this time, Furnace Hills Pike is shut down but will be reopened shortly.

An investigation by the Lancaster Patrol Unit is currently ongoing.
