Fatal two-vehicle crash leaves Marshallville woman dead, another injured

CANAAN TOWNSHIP − The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash at state routes 83 and 604 on Saturday, July 1, that left a Marshallville woman dead and another driver injured.

Nancy Hastings, 74, was driving east on State Route 604 in a 2016 GMC Terrain SUV when she failed to yield at a stop sign after initially stopping, according to an OSHP press release.

Pulling into the intersection, she was struck on the driver's side by 53-year-old Scott Peto of Lodi.

Peto was driving south along State Route 83 in a 2004 Ford F-350 pickup truck without a seatbelt, according to law enforcement.

After the collision, both vehicles traveled southeast of State Route 83 into an open field.

Hastings was pronounced dead at the scene. Peto was transported to Wooster Community Hospital with unknown injuries, according to OSHP.
