One of the purest and enduring expressions of paternal love in popular culture in this century came with Pulitzer Prize winner Cormac McCarthy’s 2006 novel “The Road.”

Set in an unspecified but not-too-distant future, this bleak story follows a man and his preteen son on a desolate walk through the violent wreckage of an America at the end of its devolution, destroyed and devoid of environmental, social and spiritual landmarks.

But within McCarthy’s prescient postmortem — “The frailty of everything revealed at last. Old and troubling issues resolved into nothingness and night.” — the warm spark of humanity and goodness continues to glow in the relationship between father and son.

If my kids are out there looking for a Father’s Day gift this weekend, I’d take a fresh copy of “The Road” or any book by McCarthy, who died on Tuesday in Santa Fe, N.M., at 89.

THURSDAY

Not to be missed: Ryan Adams and The Cardinals was the setting for the country-rock star at his best, and their stop at The Parker in Fort Lauderdale — on a tour that is part reunion for the band 12 years after its breakup and an attempted rapprochement after Adams’ abuse accusations in 2019 — is the perfect marriage of venue and sublime music. Tickets for his 8 p.m. show on Thursday (a followup to his Wednesday concert) start at $69.50+ at ParkerPlayhouse.com.

Funk on the beach: New York funk collective Lettuce and roots-reggae icons Steel Pulse kick off their joint summer tour at the Miami Beach Bandshell on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Professional surfer and musician Makua Rothman also will perform. Tickets cost $44.50+ at MiamiBeachBandshell.com.

FRIDAY

Dad vice: Kapow Noodle Bar in Boca Raton and West Palm Beach will honor your dad’s favorite hobbies (drinking and TV) with a creative lineup of Old Fashioned cocktails inspired by famous TV father figures Ted Lasso, Homer Simpson, Peter Griffin and Minato Namikaze. For example, the Homer Simpson cocktail — called “My Only Vice,” a riff on his quote: “Coffee is my only vice. Well, that and donuts. And beer. And …” — is made with Papa’s Pilar dark rum, maple syrup, Subculture Coffee and Dugan & Dame’s Morning Wood Cocktail Bitters. It is served with a doughnut garnish. Available all weekend, each cocktail ($15) comes with a single ice cube embedded with the face of its inspirational parent. Dads also get a free Sapporo beer. Visit Instagram.com/kapownoodlebar.

For the well-Taylored Dad: Maybe, like some dads I know, you have scored points with your daughter by becoming fluent in the language of Taylor Swift. Perhaps more points can be scored at The Taylor Party, sort of a touring Taylor Swift-inspired dance party, which will take over Revolution Live in downtown Fort Lauderdale at 9 p.m. Friday. Tickets for the 18-and-older show cost $18, or $13 each as part of the Pride four-pack. Of course, no one is recommending you go in, Daddio. That would be weird. You’re the Uber. Visit JoinTheRevolution.net.

The gift of laughs:Longtime “Saturday Night Live” star, “Late Night” host and ubiquitous TV pitchman Seth Meyers will return to the standup stage at Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood on Aug. 9. Tickets (starting at $55+) go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at MyHRL.com. A presale is happening now via the Hard Rock Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. … Due to popular demand, Hard Rock Live this week added a third show for Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias on Aug. 20. Tickets (starting at $55+) are on sale now at MyHRL.com.

Dad’s too sexy:The Carousel Club at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach is throwing a three-day event dedicated to the Old Man’s heyday called Now That’s What I Call a ‘90s Party. The throwback celebration, Friday through Sunday, will include ‘90s-inspired bars with themed cocktails, period visuals and photo-ops, and all the big music hits of the decade. (Worst song of the ‘90s: Los Del Rio’s “Macarena” or Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy”? Discuss.). No one is telling you not to dress the part. Hours are 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday, noon to 3 a.m. Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. Select beers are five-for-$15 from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. Admission is free. Visit CarouselClub.com.

Week of Wes:You won’t find much guidance on fatherhood from filmmaker Wes Anderson, though “The Royal Tenenbaums” and “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” are certainly cautionary tales of paternal redemption realized too late. In advance of the nationwide release of “Asteroid City” on June 23, the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival’s Cinema Paradiso in downtown Hollywood is hosting a weeklong festival of Wes Anderson films beginning Friday. Other titles include “Rushmore,” “The Darjeeling Limited,” “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Isle of Dogs” and “The French Dispatch.” Visit FLIFF.com.

SATURDAY

Surf shopping: If you have one of those cool dads, Gypsy Life Surf Shop in the West Palm Beach Warehouse District will have its International Surfing Day Sidewalk Sale & Market on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Along with major markdowns on apparel and boards, you’ll find local vendors and live music from 4 to 6 p.m. by Brett Staska (recommended). Visit Facebook.com/gypsylifesurfshop.

Hops on Pop:Riverside Market South (the double-secret one near the Fort Lauderdale airport at 3218 SE Sixth Ave.) will be the setting for the sixth annual SFLHops Beer Festival from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. The homebrewer competition will feature more than 75 beers (including some from favorite local breweries), wine and liquor options, plus vendors with dad-friendly gifts (check out The Tiny Mallet), and live music (Master Feathers). There will be food for purchase. Tickets start at $37+ (1 p.m. entry), VIP for $55+ (noon entry and other perks). Get 10% off with the code: fathersday. Visit Facebook.com/SFLHops.

SUNDAY

Biscuit brunch:Dan Ramos of Red Splendor Farm has achieved line-out-the-door fame for his biscuits. On Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Palm Beach Meats in West Palm Beach, Ramos will host Dan’s Biscuit Brunch Pop-up, highlighted by the Big Dad Biscuit. The Father’s Day sandwich layers Wagyu meatloaf, bacon, pimento cheese, farm egg and barbecued onions. Cost: $15. And don’t get me started on the Biscuit Bread Pudding French Toast ($8). Visit PalmBeachMeats.com/events.

Boricua on wheels:The centerpiece of Smorgasburg Miami’s Boricua Block Party on Sunday will be a watch party for one of its vendors, Puerto Rican street food purveyor D’Pura Cepa, on the Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race” at 8 p.m. The episodes featuring D’Pura Cepa’s Jose Carnot, Janshanic Santos and Louis Del Rio Rubio are set in Los Angeles and will award $50,000 to the winning truck in the July 30 finale. The Boricua Block Party, which will include music from Mofongo de Plena, takes place 7 to 9 p.m. at Smorgasburg Miami’s Wynwood space. Visit Instagram.com/smorgasburgmiami.

Careless memories:Duran Duran may have provided the soundtrack (and ill-conceived fashion decisions) for Dad’s misspent youth. Still near the top of their game as pure, fun entertainment, the band performs at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise at 7 p.m. Sunday. Openers are Nile Rodgers & Chic and Bastille. Tickets start at $25+ at Ticketmaster.com.
