Father, football coach shot to death on North Plymouth Ave. identified

Rochester police have identified the man shot to death last week on North Plymouth Avenue in Rochester.

Emergency responders were called to North Plymouth Avenue and Ambrose Street around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, after shots were fired in the area. Responding officers found Alec Rouse, 31, lying in the street after he was shot at least once in his torso, according to Rochester police.

Rouse was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived. Police said that he was fatally shot after knocking on the wrong door. Police did not elaborate on the circumstances of his death.

No charges have been filed in connection with his death.

His family described Rouse as a loving, giving and devoted friend, son, brother, uncle and father.

"Alec was a phenomenal and dedicated football coach and father," his obituary read. "He taught his players how to be good players and good honest men."

Rouse was a father of three and a football coach to the Upstate Junior Predators in Rochester. In a social media post, the group said Rouse, who coached the 13U team, had an "infectious passion" for the game of football and was loved by his athletes.

"He had a way of pulling a team together and getting them to strike a brotherhood unlike any person," the post read. "He was an eternal optimist and always saw the positive in everything. He stuck with us through good times and bad and saw the vision of what we are working towards. I am forever grateful to Al and what he brought to this organization. He touched the hearts of many players turning them into young men who displayed the same optimism and confidence he had."

A diehard Eagles fans, Rouse was starting college courses with the goal of becoming a professional coach. He loved cooking and grilling, traveling and boxing. But more than anything, he loved his family.

His mother Kathy Rouse shared her grief and love for her slain son in numerous social media posts.

"You were building young men's lives and a coward took you away," she said in a Thursday morning post. "These young boys loved you as your brothers and sisters and so many many people did. They only all know the goodness and joy you brought." I am sooo proud of what you had accomplished and I will continue to shout out to people about you daily."

Kathy Rouse said she is heartbroken over the loss of her son and is asking anyone with information about his killing to contact police.

Rouse's calling hours are set to take place between 4 and 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 2636 Ridgeway Ave., Greece. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, also at the funeral home.

Rouse was predeceased by his older brother Archie Rouse. He was survived by his fiancé Kyosha Diaz; children Alec Jr., A'King and Alayah: his parents, siblings and numerous other relatives.

An online fundraiser was launched this week to support Rouse's family.
