The FAU Owls are expected to lose another lead coordinator this offseason.

Florida Atlantic co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Drew Mehringer is expected to become New Mexico’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, according to Yahoo Sports.

Mehringer’s tenure with FAU will have only lasted a year, as he was hired as the team’s co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach in December 2019 after Willie Taggart took over the head coach job.

He was named the tight ends coach in addition to his offensive coordinator duties last month after the Owls’ recent assistant coach shakeups.

Michael Johnson was named FAU’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach after the program parted ways with Clint Trickett in January.

Mike Stoops replaced Jim Leavitt as FAU’s defensive coordinator last week.

Joey Thomas became the Owls’ new wide receivers coach after being a defensive analyst last year when Mehringer over the tight-ends coaching position from Jaron Fairman, who’s also no longer with the program.

Raymond Woodie, the Owls’ outside linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator, also took over Fairman’s role as the team’s special teams coordinator.
