Jan. 30—LENOIR — Lee Faulk has a vision in bettering the world around him through his racing knowledge and financial means.

The former NASCAR driver, 66, operates Lee Faulk Racing and Development out of the racing hub of Denver. He recruits and trains young drivers, with the objective of sending them to the next level of professional racing.

Whether that be the Craftsman Truck Series, Xfinity Series, or ARCA — Faulk's program has proven to be a positive addition to motorsports.

He has now made a local connection. Faulk has established a fund to benefit Communities In Schools of Caldwell County.

Also involved is Toyota Racing Development, Falken Tires and Tri-County Speedway

"They wanted to reach out to a nonprofit in Caldwell County, and make a donation," Executive Director Keith Hindman explained at Rankin House on Monday. "So they selected Communities In Schools of Caldwell County, to make that donation to. "

There are seven locations in the network: Hibriten, South Caldwell and West Caldwell High Schools; as well as William Lenoir, Hudson, Granite Falls and Gamewell Middle Schools.

"These funds right here are going to greatly help us with our educational resources that we need, " Hindman said. "To provide a program for students in grades six-through -12, that are identified, that are in our program."

LFR provides a platform for young talent to be developed and placed with a top-notch NASCAR organization.

Faulk was recently at Tri-County Speedway in Hudson, hosting a testing session for young female aspiring truck racers.

"That covers anything from financial literacy to entrepreneurship, to including within that how to start up and run a business," Hindman said. "Also working on character education in he seven habits of highly-effective teens from (author) Sean Covey. These moneys were desperately needed to support those programs that go on in our schools."

The racing season kicks off at Tri-County Speedway on April 1 with the weekly lineup of Late Models, Limited Late Models, Outlaws and Street Stocks. Starting March 4, there will be four Saturdays of open practice at the 4/10th-mile asphalt oval.
