Some of your favorite award-winning shows were filmed in Westchester

Westchester County was front and center in several of 2023's top nominated and award-winning shows.

Westchester County Film & Tourism Director Natasha Caputo said shows filmed in locations across the county earned 56 nominations and nine wins during the Emmy Awards on Jan. 15 and several other accolades during the Golden Globes on Jan. 10 and the Critics' Choice Awards on Jan. 14.

HBO's "Succession," one of the most buzzed-about shows of the year, filmed several of its episodes in Westchester County. An episode centered around patriarch and business mogul Logan Roy includes scenes that were filmed at Westchester County Airport.

The show won six Emmys last week, including Outstanding Drama and Best Writing in Drama. It also won four Golden Globes and three Critic's Choice Awards.

Amazon Prime's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" was also a winner who used Westchester's film locations this awards season. Parts of the show were filmed at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle. It won two Emmys, for period makeup and cinematography.

On the production side of the business, Alchemy Post Sound, a post-production sound studio in Peekskill, took home a Creative Arts Emmy for sound editing on FX's The Bear”

“The film industry's impact on Westchester is undeniable," Westchester County Executive George Latimer said in the release. "A driving force for investment, film production is a $1.1 billion sector in Westchester. It showcases our assets, creates jobs, supports local vendors, and attracts audiences here and around the world.”

Other shows that earned award nominations this season include:

  • "Only Murders in the Building" (Hulu), filmed at Westchester County Records Center.

  • “The Watcher” (Netflix), filmed at a private home and country club in Rye.

  • “FBI: Most Wanted” (CBS), films regularly and extensively throughout Westchester.

  • “The Other Two” (HBO), filmed at Haven Studios NY in Mount Vernon.

  • “White House Plumbers” (HBO), filmed in the Michaelian Building in White Plains, Purchase College, Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle; and the Belvedere Estate in Tarrytown.

  • “Poker Face” (Peacock), filmed at the former IBM campus in Somers.

  • “The Gilded Age” (HBO), filmed at Lyndhurst, Glenview Mansion/Hudson River Museum, Manhattanville College, Jacob Purdy House, Pace University, and more.

  • “Maestro” (Netflix) filmed in Rye.

  • “The Crowded Room” (Apple TV+), filmed at Untermyer Park and Gardens in Yonkers and downtown Hastings-on-Hudson.

Caputo said the county's communities and its film office help attract directors and show runners to the area to film. She said film crews often stick around to explore and enjoy local spots.

“We love shooting in Westchester," "The Gilded Age" director Michael Engler said in the news release. "When we go up there, everyone enjoys it and stays for a few days. People are extremely friendly and gracious, creating a sense of community.”

Shows with prominent Westchester locations are up for another round of award shows next month. The Director’s Guild and Producer’s Guild Awards take place on February 10 and 25, respectively, while the SAG Awards takes place February 23.
