Lodge Cast Iron Skillet Pan

Lodge Cast-Iron Skillet

Lodge cast-iron skillets are a classic piece of cookware that you'll own forever. While the 12-inch Lodge skillet didn't win our product test of the best cast-iron pans (the Victoria skillet beat it out due to a superior pre-seasoned coating), we found that the Lodge 10-inch skillet was easier to maneuver than the Victoria due to its helper handle. While the Lodge pan requires some patience and diligence when it comes to seasoning the pan to get that perfect non-stick patina, it's well worth the effort for this inexpensive kitchen workhorse. Especially since you can get it on sale this weekend.

Breville Smart Oven Air

The Breville Smart Oven Air is a lot of things—an air-fryer, convection oven, toaster, broiler, dehydrator, and proofing drawer—and it fits on your counter. Granted, it might take up a lot space, but it'll fit nonetheless.

The secret to this oven's versatility is two-speed convection. Its "Super Convection" setting turns up the fan speed to give you faster, more even and energy-efficient cooking. At high temperatures, that makes it an air fryer, and at low, a dehydrator. Breville's MultiPurpose Smart Oven Is 20 Off Right Now

The final piece of the puzzle is the oven's independent heating elements, which let you crank the bottom heat to get a perfect pizza crust while easing off the top-down heat for the toppings. And while the oven’s capacity is much less than a conventional oven, convection means you can pack it full—not to look too far ahead, but Breville claims it fits a 14-pound turkey, so you can free up space in your main oven for sides on Thanksgiving.

Plus, a smaller, less multi-purpose version of this toaster oven won our test of the best toaster ovens. You can get that one, the Breville Smart Oven, about $100 dollars off and with free shipping through Father's Day—along with a lot of other Breville products, like our favorite home espresso machine for $600 (originally $1,000).

LE CREUSET Dutch Oven

LE CREUSET Dutch Oven

Le Creuset Round Dutch Oven

The Epi Test Kitchen uses Le Creuset Dutch ovens, so we know that they hold up to wear and tear. The enamel doesn’t seem to ever chip and the pot can withstand high temperatures, frying, braising, boiling, and whatever else we throw at it. In our test of the best Dutch ovens, the Le Creuset was a clear winner. It gave meat and vegetables a nice brown crust and showed great heat distribution. Its large handles are thin and have lots of room to stick your hand through, even if you're wearing bulky oven mitts.

John Boos & Co. Reversible Walnut Cutting Board

John Boos cutting boards are a favorite among the Epicurious staff (we're fans of big cutting boards here). They're essentially miniature butcher blocks, although relative to other cutting boards, they're huge.

If you're torn between wooden and plastic cutting boards for food safety reasons, know this: although plastic surfaces are soft and not as porous as wooden ones, plastic cutting boards are just as prone to bacteria-harboring cuts and grooves as wood. Trust the research. Plus, wooden surfaces are better for the longevity of your knives. Plus, these Boos blocks usually don't run cheap—it's rare to see one under $100, so grasp this opportunity while you can.

Instant Pot DUO60

Instant Pot DUO60

Instant Pot DUO60

It steams! It sautes! It makes rice! And, uh, so do all the other Instant Pots. So what's great about this one? It's the perfect starter: not too big, not too small, and not quite as complicated as some of the more expensive models. Plus, this one makes yogurt! This is the best Instant Pot for entry-level multi-cooker users. Plus, it's $45 off at Macy's this weekend.
