What’s your favorite Halloween candy? New report breaks down popular treats by state

With Halloween coming up, Instacart decided to crunch the numbers for the most popular candies in the U.S. this year.

The top 10 are:

  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

  • Peanut M&M’s.

  • Regular M&M’s.

  • Tootsie Pops.

  • Twizzlers.

  • Hershey’s Milk Chocolate.

  • Sour Patch Kids.

  • Candy Corn.

  • KitKat.

  • Starburst

Instacart said Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup and M&Ms always make the list, but there were some surprises.

“Comparing this list of the top 10 Halloween candies to last year reveals some exciting changes,” said Instacart’s Trends Expert Laurentia Romaniuk. “We’ve got three newcomers: Tootsie Pops, Sour Patch Kids, and Candy Corn — two classics and a candy with a modern sour twist, which tells us there’s a delectable blend of nostalgia and contemporary flavors showing up in candy bowls.”

Instacart also looked at which candies were popular by state. It did this by seeing how much of a candy was bought in a state and comparing it to the national average.

Can you guess Washington State’s candy?

Peanut M&Ms are the candy Washingtonians buy more than the national average. The same goes for Oregon and Idaho.

On the East Coast, Twizzlers and Candy Corn were more popular.

Alaska was the only state to buy more Hi-Chew and Florida was the only state to buy more Dum-Dums.

Rhode Island was the only state to buy more Sour Patch Kids, Oklahoma was the only state with Tootsie Rolls, and Georgia was the only state with Trolli Gummy Candy.
