Fayette County, surrounding area school district delays, closures Wednesday due to flood threat
FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — All Fayette County school districts and some Lee and Bastrop County school districts are on a delayed start Wednesday morning due to rain and a Flash Flood Warning in the area. Some districts have announced closures for the day.
Flooding concerns continue east of I-35
Schulenburg ISD: Canceled
School for Schulenburg ISD is canceled Wednesday, Superintendent Julie Motomura said in an updated email. The district was initially under a two-hour delay.
Motomura said many surrounding roads are still under water as of 7:30 a.m. and impassable, and since rain forecasted to continue all day, school is canceled.
The district intends on returning Thursday and following a regular schedule.
St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Schulenburg is also canceled for Wednesday.
La Grange ISD: Canceled
La Grange ISD is canceled Wednesday.
The district posted on its Facebook page and website that classes are canceled for Wednesday. The district was initially on a two-hour delay.
“La Grange ISD has been monitoring the weather and changing forecasts,” the post read. “It is in the best interest of student and staff safety to cancel school and all activities scheduled for today.”
Sacred Heart Catholic School in La Grange is also canceled for Wednesday.
Fayetteville ISD: Canceled
Fayetteville ISD is canceled, according to the district’s social media. The district was initially on a two-hour delay.
Round Top-Carmine ISD: Canceled
Round Top-Carmine Independent School District is canceled due to localized flooding. It was initially on a two-hour delay.
Flatonia ISD: 2-hour delay
Flatonia ISD said on social media it will also run on a two-hour delay, with school beginning at 9:45 a.m. Schools and staff will need to report by 9:30.
There will be no breakfast at schools and all morning practices have been canceled.
Smithville ISD: 2-hour delay
Smithville ISD in Bastrop County will delay start time by two hours.
The bell schedules will be as follows:
BP – 9:55am
SES – 9:45am
JH – 9:55am
SHS – 9:55am
Buses will pick up two hours later as well.
Giddings ISD: 2-hour delay
Giddings ISD in Lee County will also be on a two-hour delay.
