Fayetteville area closings, schedule changes related to Tropical Storm Ian

This list will be updated as new information comes in. Here are the latest closings:
Colleges and universities
• Fayetteville State University has canceled Friday and Saturday classes. The Early Childhood Learning Center will be closed Friday.
• Fayetteville Technical Community College will operate on a remote schedule Friday, with instruction moving online for the day.
• Methodist University has canceled all classes and events Friday, and all offices will be closed. Online classes will occur as usual.
Cumberland County Offices
Cumberland County government offices and the court system will be closed Friday, the county announced Thursday. The closed offices include includes Animal Services, the Public Library System, the Ann Street Landfill, Wilkes Road yard debris site, and all Solid Waste container sites, according to a news release.
Smith Recreation Center, 1520 Slater Ave., Fayetteville, will be open from 7 a.m. Friday to noon Saturday for those who need shelter during the storm.
City of Fayetteville
All Fayetteville Cumberland Parks and Recreation outdoor activities will be canceled for Friday, and all outdoor games will be canceled for Saturday, according to a news release from the city. All recreation centers will be closed Friday.
Administrative offices will be closed to the public.
Yard waste, bulky, limb and household waste collection will be suspended Friday. Friday’s household waste will be collected Oct. 5. Friday recycling will be collected Saturday.

Fort Bragg
Fort Bragg will be operating with essential personnel only Friday because of the weather, a news release from the installation stated.
Employees should consult with their chain of command for further guidance, officials said.
Schools and gyms on post will be closed.
Bauguess and Baez Child Development Centers will remain open Friday for children of mission essential parents required to report to work.
The two-day Oktoberfest event, which was scheduled to start Friday is also canceled, but it is still scheduled for Saturday.
All-access control points will operate on weekend hours, with Long Street, Chicken, Yadkin, All American, Randolph, Honeycutt, Simmons, and the truck plaza gates remaining open.
Officials said the Directorate of Public Works has checked storm drains and inlets ahead of the storm.
On-post residents in need of an emergency repair should call 1-866-206-1365, and those living in Liden Oaks should call1-866-908-2623.
Emergency work orders for the non-housing area can be reported by calling 910-396-0321/0322.
Cumberland County Schools
Cumberland County Schools will operate remotely Friday because of expected inclement weather as Tropical Storm Ian moves into the Fayetteville area, the school system announced Thursday.
All district offices and school buildings will be closed, and employees will work remotely, the school system said in a news release.
Friday will be an asynchronous learning day, meaning students will work independently on assignments updated to the Canvas platform, according to the release.
