Hi foodies,

This week, I’m bringing you small bites of Fayetteville food truck news. Here’s the latest.

Planning a Friday night out on the town? American Cravings has your morning after covered with a special “hangover brunch” menu from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Haymount Truck Stop, 100 Broadfoot Ave. Indulge in a burger topped with bacon and an over-easy egg and a giant cinnamon roll or dig into a Greek yogurt parfait topped with berries and granola.

The truck is also rolling out its American Cravings Challenge: a five-patty cheeseburger and a basket of smothered chicken fries topped with a choice of ranch, buffalo or ketchup. If you can down all of that in 30 minutes, the food is free, and you get a free T-shirt. If you fail, it’ll cost you $40. Call ahead to give it your best shot. I’m considering giving it a go myself; even if I can’t finish it, I think I can still do some serious damage.

Fry Papi food truck, known for its carne asada-loaded fries, tacos and burritos, will be a permanent fixture at Haymount Truck stop in March. The truck will serve its signature Mexican-inspired dishes that have made it one of the most popular trucks in town at lunch and dinner daily. I had the pleasure of trying the off-menu braised beef cheek tacos on Wednesday, which chef-owner Zachary Substanley said have a chance at becoming a special menu item only available at the new truck stop.

Shae’s Confections, a new dessert food truck recently hit the road. The menu reads like a marriage between a bakery and the county fair: pound cake by the slice, mini cakes, cinnamon rolls, red velvet brownies, funnel cakes, funnel cake fries, fried Oreos and fried cheesecake bites are all on the table, as well as specialty lemonades, coffee and hot chocolate.

The owners of Cool Beans Coffee and Ice Cream announced last week on Facebook that the business is closing its Autryville location on Jan. 21. The closing of the brick-and-mortar shop comes a few months after the business closed a short-lived store on Great Lane in Raeford. The Cool Beans Coffee and Ice Cream food truck will continue to operate, the post said.

Rolling Tacos Pupusas food truck is temporarily closed while co-owner Zully Sherpinskas undergoes surgery to repair an ACL injury, according to a Dec. 31 post to the truck’s Facebook page. Friday was the truck’s last day in business before reopening Jan. 23 at Sampson Community College, Sherpinskas said Wednesday.

Happy eating,

Taylor
