Fayetteville Observer 2023 Voter Guide: Today is Election Day. Here's what to know.

Election Day is today for municipal elections in Cumberland County.

Voters will cast their ballots for races in Eastover, Falcon, Fayetteville, Godwin, Hope Mills, Linden, Spring Lake, Stedman and Wade.

Those voting today will cast their ballots at their designated voting location, which can be found on the State Board of Elections website. Voting sites will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Election Day, according to the county.

Here's what else you need to know this election season.

Who's running in Fayetteville?

In Fayetteville, the mayor and all nine council seats are on the ballot.

Who's running in Hope Mills?

The mayor and all five at-large Board of Commissioners seats are on the ballot.

Who's running in Spring Lake?

In addition to the mayor's seat, all five at-large Board of Aldermen seats are on the ballot.

Mayor: Incumbent Kia Anthony faces Fredricka Sutherland. Read their responses to our candidate questionnaire here.

Board of Aldermen: Incumbents Robyn Chadwick, Soña L. Cooper, Marvin Lackman, Raul Palacios and Adrian Jones Thompson will face challengers Katrina Bell Bratcher, Daniel B. Gerald, Jackie Lee Jackson and James P. O’Garra. Read their responses to our questionnaire here.

Who else is running?

Eastover Sanitary District Board: Incumbent Dani Osborne faces no challengers.

Mayor of Eastover: Incumbent Charles McLaurin has no opposition.

Eastover Town Council: Incumbents Stan Crumpler and Cheryl C. Hudson and challenger Frederick A. Williams are vying for three open seats.

Mayor of Falcon: Wayne G. Lucas will compete unopposed for the seat currently held by Mayor Clifton L. Turpin, Jr.

Falcon Board of Commissioners: Incumbents R. Dwayne Dunning Sr., Larry C. Lovick and John C. Wheeler and challengers Sue Brigman, James Danny Nelson and Chris Stone are vying for four open seats on the four-person board.

Mayor of Godwin: Mayor Willie Burnette will face no opposition in his bid for another term.

Godwin Board of Commissioners: Incumbents George Cooper Jr., Scarlet M. Hall, Ronald McNeill and Joseph Smith and challenger Angela Burnette Lambert are vying for four seats.

Mayor of Linden: Mayor Frances B. Collier faces no challengers in her bid for another term.

Linden Board of Commissioners: Incumbents Jonathan Collier, Barbara C. Denning, Ronnie Maness, Larry Overby and Betsy Small are seeking reelection to five open seats.

Stedman Board of Commissioners: Incumbent Mark Lee and challengers Joseph Manuel and Ralph A. Vogt are vying for three open seats.

Mayor of Wade: Commissioners Johnny Lanthorn and George E. Strater will face off for the seat currently held by Mayor Joseph Dixon.

Wade Board of Commissioners: Two incumbents, Kevin A. Herring and Jennifer Dixon Weaver, are the only candidates to file in the race for the board’s five open seats.

Voter ID

Voters are required to show an approved form of photo identification to cast their ballots.

According to the State Board of Elections, approved forms of photo ID include:

  • A North Carolina driver's license that has not expired more than a year ago.

  • A non-operator ID from the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles.

  • A driver's license, if the voter registered in North Carolina within 90 days of the election, or a non-driver ID from another state, the District of Columbia or a U.S. territory.

  • A U.S. passport or passport card.

  • A voter photo ID card issued by a county board of elections.

  • A military or veteran ID card issued by the U.S. government.

  • A tribal enrollment card issued by a tribe recognized by a state or federal government.

  • An ID card issued by a U.S. government agency or the state of North Carolina for a public assistance program.

  • A student ID card for all UNC system schools.

  • A Methodist University student ID.

  • A North Carolina General Assembly employee ID.

  • A Robeson Community College student ID.

Voters age 65 and older can use expired identification if the ID was not expired on their 65th birthday, the website states.
