Fayetteville woman charged in fatal Skibo Road hit-and-run

A Fayetteville woman was arrested Saturday after a fatal early-morning hit-and-run on Skibo Road, the Fayetteville Police Department said.

Amber Voight, 39, is charged with felony hit-and-run in the death of Mark Sweatt, 48, according to a news release. Voight’s 2003 Honda Civic allegedly struck Sweatt as he crossed the 1900 block of Skibo Road near Cliffdale Road about 5:20 a.m., then fled the scene, the release said.

Sweatt, who was from Virginia, died on the scene, Sgt. Alpha Caldwell said Saturday.

Officers found the Civic in the parking lot of the Walmart at 1550 Skibo Road, about a five-minute drive from the scene of the crash, using city cameras and license plate reader technology, according to the release. Voight was arrested at 7:30 a.m., Caldwell said.

Voight was booked into the Cumberland County jail with bail set at $60,000, police said. Anyone with information in the crash is asked to contact Officer C. Biggerstaff at 910-751-1382 or Crimestoppers at 910-483-8477.
