Fayetteville's Dirty Dozen and Skye Drive/Summertime Gang come through for Bill Shaw fund

Two groups of old friends have helped propel the Bill Shaw Salvation Army Christmas fund past the $100,000 mark.

The Dirty Dozen's and the Sky Drive/Summertime Gang's contributions bring our total to $108,255.75.

This marks the 64th year that the Dirty Dozen has contributed to the fund.

The 2023 contribution of $17,053.75 is made in memory of all previous members including the Dirty Dozen's longtime Chairman V.F. Talley and Bill Shaw, for whom the fund is named, according to a statement from Lee Warren and Albert McCauley, the group's chairman and vice-chairman.

The 2023 contribution is also made in memory of Henry Melvin's two sons, Rick and Mike; S.T. Home's brother Alfred "Runt" Horne; and former Sheriff Morris Bedsole.

The group started the "Dirty Dozen Endowment Fund" through the Cumberland Community Foundation, and with $8,500 contributed for this year, the total is now $65,500.
