F&B outlets selling alcohol must display sales hours from 1 March
Those caught consuming alcohol drinks after permitted hours liable to be fined up to $1,000
SINGAPORE — Food-and-beverage outlets selling alcoholic drinks will be required to display notices regarding their hours of sale from 1 March.
The police said in a media release on Monday (30 January) that the notices must indicate that alcohol is not allowed outside of permitted hours. They must also be displayed prominently in places like entrances, ordering points, toilets, and restaurant counters.
The new requirement comes after the police did a review of the regulatory requirements for liquor supply in licensed establishments, together with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
It will apply to liquor licences Class 1A, 1B, 2A and 2B.
Under a Class 1A licence, the permitted hours are from 6am to 11.59pm, while the permitted hours under a Class 1B licence are from 6am to 10pm. Class 2A and 2B licences only allow the supply of beer, and the permitted hours are from 6am to 11.59pm.
A fine of up to $10,000 could be imposed on liquor licensees who fail to display the notices.
Meanwhile, those who are caught consuming alcohol in licensed outlets after permitted hours could also receive up to $1,000 in fine, since consumption of alcohol on the premises may be illegal after hours.
Repeat offenders can be fined up to $2,000 and/or jailed for up to three months.
