FBI: Most Wanted spoilers ahead.

FBI: Most Wanted has just lost a major cast member ahead of its upcoming fifth season.

Alexa Davalos, who joined the CBS procedural drama as Special Agent Kristin Gaines in 2021, is bowing out after two seasons and will not appear in season five.

While there was no indication that Davalos would be leaving the show during the season four finale, Deadline reports that the actress was "was informed by a producer on set that she won't be coming back after filming her last scene from season four several months ago".

The outlet also reported that Davalos' departure from the show was "amicable".

In the season four finale, Davalos' character assisted Remy (Dylan McDermott) in apprehending his brother's true killer, Benji (D'Ambrose Boyd), who was attempting to flee to Canada.

It remains unclear how Gaines' sudden exit will be addressed in season five, though the new season has not been written yet due to the ongoing WGA (Writers Guild of America) strike in Hollywood.

When Davalos first joined in season three, Julian McMahon played her character's supervisor, Jess LaCroix.

However, LaCroix was gunned down in the hospital car park and lost his life in the season three finale.

Previously discussing LaCroix's death, executive producer David Hudgins said: "We talked about every possible iteration of it, and ultimately, what [we] kept coming back to session after session was, 'Look, this is Most Wanted. We're chasing the worst of the worst, the most dangerous of the dangerous, and there is a very real risk associated with the job.'"

"We ultimately decided that that was true to the premise of the show, that risk of being shot or killed in the line of duty," he added. "We just felt like it was appropriate and emotional and tragic."

FBI: Most Wanted airs on CBS in the US. Seasons 1-3 can be watched via NOW, Apple TV+ and more in the UK.
