FBI raids Garfield apartment, arrests man on gun, drug charges
The FBI raided a Garfield apartment Wednesday, arresting a man they said was in possession of equipment to convert handguns into automatic weapons, drugs and over $20,000 in cash.
Jared James Williams, 34, is facing federal gun charges and charges for possession with intent to sell fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine. In addition to drugs and $21,000 in cash, agents said they found extended pistol magazines and ammunition and multiple tools and equipment to modify guns while executing a search warrant.
Williams allegedly told agents he purchased gun parts off the internet. He said that if someone wanted to buy a modified gun, he would charge an extra $500, according to the complaint.
Williams allegedly admitted he sold cocaine and marijuana and was attempting to sell guns to help support his family.
A detention hearing is scheduled for Friday afternoon.
