FBI Director Christopher Wray is detailing ongoing attempts by China to become the "world's only superpower." "The potential economic harm to American businesses and the economy as a whole almost defies calculation," Wray says. (July 7)
CHRISTOPHER WRAY: We've now reached the point where the FBI is opening a new China related counter-intelligence case about every 10 hours. Of the nearly 5,000 active FBI counterintelligence cases currently underway across the country almost half are all related to China. And at this very moment, China is working to compromise American health care organizations, pharmaceutical companies, and academic institutions conducting essential COVID-19 research.
China is engaged in a whole of state effort to become the world's only superpower by any means necessary. And over the past decade, we've seen economic espionage cases with a link to China increased by approximately 1,300%. The stakes could not be higher. And the potential economic harm to American businesses and the economy as a whole almost defies calculation.
