Coming amid a national shortage of corrections officers, the Federal Correctional Institution-Tallahassee will be hosting a recruitment event Saturday.

The federal women's prison is looking to hire officers, registered nurses and more, according to a Federal Bureau of Prisons news release. The event will be at FCI-Tallahassee, 501 Capital Circle N.E., 9 a.m.-1 p.m. As an incentive, future corrections officers will receive a signing bonus, according to the release.

The national shortage of corrections officers is mirrored by a statewide labor shortage that has also persisted for several years. Florida state prisons have struggled to decrease vacancy rates, causing Gov. Ron DeSantis to take action by mobilizing the National Guard to help at certain prisons, adding signing bonuses for officers and increasing their wages.
