Nov. 9—Below is information provided by the Fayette County Sheriff's Department on recent arrests:

—A Nov. 4 incident resulted in a Mount Carbon man facing felony charges, according to Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley.

A news release from Fridley said that Fayette County Sheriff's Department deputies received notice on Nov. 4 of a man removing items from a residence in Mount Carbon and setting them on fire. The individuals who lived in the residence were out of town at the time.

When deputies arrived, they discovered the man had barricaded himself in the home, which was not his. According to the release, the fire was located close enough to the structure to melt the vinyl winding and caused other damage. The fire was then extinguished by responding fire personnel.

Deputies eventually took the man, Fredrick Carter, 58, into custody without incident. Authorities determined that Carter formerly lived in that residence before being evicted, the release said.

Carter was charged with first degree arson and was transported to Southern Regional Jail.

—Felony gun charges were lodged against a Hico man on Nov. 3.

According to Sheriff Fridley, during an ongoing investigation by members of the Central Regional West Virginia Drug Task Force along with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, a search warrant was executed at a residence on Arrowwood Creek Road in Hico. The search yielded numerous firearms inside the home, according to the release. Further investigation found the owner and primary resident of the property was a convicted felon.

James "Jimmy" Kenney, 63, was charged with the felony offense of prohibited person in possession of firearms.

—A South Carolina man has been charged with felony arson in Fayette County.

A felony charge of first degree arson was lodged against a Myrtle Beach man on Oct. 29, according to Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley.

In a news release, Fridley said that deputies and fire service personnel responded to the Horseshoe Creek Road area of Victor at about 7:30 p.m. on Sunday for a suspected arson of an abandoned trailer.

The complainant gave dispatchers an individual's name, and that individual was seen leaving the area of the trailer just before it became engulfed in flames, according to the release. The individual matched information received on a BOLO sent out from Jackson County for a man with active warrants who had made threats to commit suicide by cops, Fridley said in the release.

The man was located and taken into custody without incident, and fire personnel extinguished the flames.

The sheriff noted that deputies took a Mirandized statement from the man, who Fridley said admitted setting the fire, which he said was his childhood home.

Mark D. Moorehead, 55, was charged with first degree arson. He was also processed for an active warrant for domestic assault from Jackson County. Moorehead was transported to Southern Regional Jail to await court proceedings.

—According to a press release from FCSD Chief Deputy Shannon Morris, deputies received notification in late September of a male pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle on Saturday Road in Victor. The man was transported for his injuries.

Detectives were called to investigate. They determined that two men had engaged in a verbal altercation over the phone. That led to the one man driving to the other's home, where the victim was struck, which resulted in serious bodily injuries, the release noted.

Jason Crist, 50, of Victor, was charged with the felony offenses of attempting to commit a felony and malicious assault.

He was arraigned by a Fayette County magistrate and posted $75,000 bond.
