FDA panel approves reformulating boosters to target omicron

Hello and welcome back for another edition of the Coronavirus Watch newsletter!

COVID-19 pandemic remains mostly unchanged in Iowa

New reported cases rose slightly while COVID-19 hospitalizations declined slightly in Iowa over the past week, a continuation of the recent trend that's seen those metrics rise and fall alternately over the past month.

The most recent data from the Des Moines Metropolitan Wastewater Reclamation Authority shows a decline in COVID-19 concentration in the city's sewage over the past several weeks. The amount of the virus in the city's wastewater has been an indicator of increases and decreases in the number of cases.

There's still a higher virus concentration than in the spring, but the most recent release, which includes samples collected last week, shows a decline from the weeks immediately prior.

  • Confirmed cases: 796,196, an increase of 3,988

  • Deaths: 9,688, an increase of nine

  • Hospitalizations: 162, down from 184 one week ago

  • Patients in ICU: 15, down from 17

Until next time, stay safe and check out this baby otter learning to swim for the first time.
