FDA warns over two dozen eyedrops, including from large store brands, could lead to eye infections and vision loss.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a warning for 26 brands of lubricating eye drops, because of the risk of infections that could potentially lead to blindness.

Earlier this year, over 80 people in the U.S. contracted rare bacterial infections linked to drug resistant bacteria in eye drops. Food and Drug Administration officials visited the plants in India where those eye drops were manufactured and found insufficient sanitation protocols.

It has led to increased scrutiny on the production of eye drops. In this newest round of warnings, the Food and Drug Administration officials say they found evidence of bacteria and unsanitary conditions in plants issuing products by:

CVS Health, Leader (Cardinal Health), Rugby (Cardinal Health), Rite Aid, Target Up & Up, Velocity Pharma, and the Equate Hydration PF Lubricant Eye Drop 10 mL sold by Walmart.

Stores are advised to remove products from their stock, and consumers are advised to stop using any products from those six brands, and to avoid purchasing any left on shelves.
