February events at the library

Jan. 25—NORWALK — February events at the Norwalk Public Library:

The library will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20, in observance of Presidents' Day.

Adult Craft Day on February 1st at 11:00 am: Instead of applying paint to paper, utilize yarn and glue to create a textured, vibrant masterpiece. Registration begins Wednesday, January 11th.

StoryTime on February 2nd, February 9th, February 16th, and February 23rd at 11:00 am: For ages 0-5. Listen to a selection of picture books and enjoy educational activities. Registration is not required.

Kids in the Kitchen on February 6th at 4:30 pm: For 3rd through 6th grades. Sample various herbs and use your favorites to cook mini frittatas. Registration begins Tuesday, January 17th.

Weird Painting on February 7th at 4:30 pm: For kindergarten through 2nd grades. Experiment with squeegee, bubble, and marble painting techniques. Registration begins Tuesday, January 17th.

Hot Chocolate Chapters on February 8th at 4:30 pm: For kindergarten through 2nd grades. Hunker down with a cup of hot chocolate as our staff reads the first chapter from a book. Registration is not required.

Music & Movement on February 10th and February 24th at 11:00 am: For ages 2-5. Through song and dance, kids are encouraged to get silly and let that excess energy out. Registration is not required.

Open Mic Night on February 10th at 7:00 pm: For 9th through 12th grades. Showcase a piece of live performance art like an original song, spoken word poem, or stand-up routine. Interested performers can sign up for a five-minute time slot the night of the event. Free refreshments provided. Registration is not required.

Anti-Valentine's Day Party on February 13th at 5:30 pm: For 6th through 8th grades. Make stuffed animal taxidermy and anti-love potions, plus attempt to write the best breakup note. Registration begins Monday, January 23rd.

Tech Tuesday on February 14th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm: If you need one-on-one help with your ereader, laptop, phone, or tablet, schedule a Tech Tutor appointment or drop in on Tech Tuesday. Registration is not required.

We Love The Very Hungry Caterpillar Party on February 14th at 6:00 pm: For ages 3-6 and parent. Celebrate The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle with a read aloud, fruit tastings, and crafts. Registration begins Tuesday, January 24th.

Winter Sowing on February 15th at 5:00 pm: Did you know you can start seeds in a milk jug or similar container during the winter months? When you construct a mini greenhouse that protects seeds from animals and harsh weather, they will emerge in the spring. Join Huron County Master Gardener, Shannon Ditz, to learn how to successfully start your garden with this low-cost, set it and forget it method. Registration begins Wednesday, January 25th.

Homeschool Hangout on February 16th at 1:00 pm: For families. Dive into the history of Presidents' Day while building your own Mount Rushmore from homemade playdough. Registration begins Thursday, January 26th.

Homesteading on February 21st at 6:00 pm: Homesteading and homemaking skills were often passed generation to generation, however with many families taking advantage of modern conveniences, folks who yearn to get back to the basics have nowhere to turn. Join President of the Huron County Chapter of the National Ladies Homestead Gathering, Shannon Ditz, to hear about modern homesteading, urban homesteading, and how her local chapter supports women through homesteading. Registration begins Tuesday, January 31st.

Adult Book Club on February 22nd at 4:30 pm and February 25th at 12:00 pm: And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie is available at the Main Desk. Registration begins Wednesday, February 1st.

Spiral Paper Roses on February 27th at 6:00 pm: Practice quilling by cutting and rolling paper strips into roses, then arrange the roses on a canvas. Registration begins Monday, February 6th.

I Survived Book Club on February 28th at 4:30 pm: For 3rd through 5th grades. Read I Survived the Battle of D-Day, 1944 by Lauren Tarshis to compete in trivia games. Title is available in the Children's Room. Registration is not required.

Best Book Club Ever on February 28th at 4:30 pm: For 6th through 8th grades. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness is available in the Children's Room. Registration is not required.
