February school vacation: Things to do in Central Mass.

If the internet at home should happen to go on the fritz during school vacation, and the kids are getting stir crazy, there are plenty of activities in Central Massachusetts to fill the time.

Worcester Common Oval

The skating oval on the Common will be open extended hours during the week.

Worcester Public Library

The main library and branches will be closed Monday in recognition of Presidents' Day. The branches will have extended hours for the remainder of the week.

Some of the vacation week events include a visit by Gilbert the Party Pig to the Tatnuck Magnet Branch at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and a Slime Workshop at the Frances Perkins Branch at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

At the main library, 3 Salem Square, a Winter Wonderland Escape Room runs on the hour, starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

Worcester Historical Museum

The museum, 30 Elm St., has several events planned for Tuesday through Friday. Admission is free, as it is throughout February.

The Alden Family Gallery, an interactive space, will be the site of vacation-week events. The gallery is in its 10th year.

The week's themes are: Tuesday, make a Mardi Gras crown; Wednesday, Worcester diners; Thursday, Salisbury Mansion; and Friday, Worcester's industrial history.

EcoTarium

The museum, 222 Harrington Way, Worcester, has planned a series of events as part of Prehistoric Planet Vacation Week. Visitors will learn what the world was like when dinosaurs roamed the planet.

Related activities will be held Monday through Friday including bone bingo (11 a.m. daily); Live reptile show (12:30 p.m. daily); and dinosaur tracking (2:45 p.m. daily).

Old Sturbridge Village

Vacation week at Old Sturbridge Village is highlighted by the Maple Days program, with a lot at maple sugaring as it was done in 19th-century New England.
