Federal dislocated worker grant stalled despite looming mill closure

Jun. 2—Haywood County's Congressional delegation in Washington are urging the Department of Labor to fast-track a pending application for dislocated worker grants in light of the looming Pactiv Evergreen closure.

"Our teams have been following the heartbreaking situation in Canton since the initial announcement. DOL has been slow to respond to this situation, and we remain committed to pushing them to act in a timely manner. We will continue to advocate for the people of Canton, and make sure they receive the assistance they need during this difficult time," read a joint statement from U.S. Sens. Ted Budd and Thom Tillis, along with Congressman Chuck Edwards.
