The driver of a FedEx truck that killed an 83-year-old woman in Gastonia will not be charged, according to the Gastonia Police Department.

Kay Andrews, of Gastonia, was hit on Brownstone Court Dec. 5 shortly before 4 p.m.

The driver of the FedEx truck, Yashica London, 38, of Bessemer City, was blinded by the sun, and Andrews had wandered at least three feet into the middle of the road, said District Attorney Travis Page.

Police went to the scene of the wreck and confirmed that it was difficult to see, Page added.

Andrews’ husband, Harry Andrews, said he was outside trimming bushes when the accident happened, and he heard the crash take place behind him.

“If you have a happy wife, you have a happy life,” Andrews said, speaking through tears. “I had a wonderful wife.”

Andrews said the driver of the vehicle is also in his thoughts.

“I know it had to be hard for her too,” he said.
