Federal authorities are investigating Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby and City Council president Nick Mosby.
- Developing right now, a federal criminal investigation targeting Baltimore City state's attorney Marilyn Mosby and her husband, Baltimore City Council president Nick Mosby. A source confirms multiple subpoenas have been served. Amy Kawata has more on the investigation and a statement from their lawyer.
AMY KAWATA: According to sources, federal prosecutors have subpoenaed Marilyn Mosby's campaign along with Nick and Marilyn's business records. Authorities are requesting financial information, which may include tax returns, bank statements, credit card statements, and loan documents.
The couple's lawyer, A. Scott Bolden, issued a statement to WJZ calling the investigation a political witch hunt, saying, quote, "my clients are progressive change agents, making them unfair targets of unnecessary scrutiny by federal investigators. Nevertheless, I can assure you and the people of Baltimore they have done nothing illegal, inappropriate, or unlawful."
In the meantime, Bolden said he advised the Mosbys not to make any further comments on this matter, and that they will cooperate with investigators to fight for the truth to come out. Sources say authorities also issued subpoenas to city churches. WJZ did reach out to Union Baptist Church for comment, and still waiting to hear back. Reporting from City Hall, I'm Amy Kawata for WJZ.
