Ready for music, food, family fun? Check out South Louisiana August, September festivals

The summer is coming to an end, kids are headed back to school and there's less daylight each day.  The ending of summer in South Louisiana means the return of  festivals.

Throughout August and into the fall, dozens of festivals will be back in action, some making their first appearances since 2019. These festivals bring with them fun food, live music, activities, and lifelong memories. From shrimp to zydeco and everything in between, here are the festivals for August and September.

Delcambre Shrimp Festival

This much anticipated festival is returning August 17 through 21. This five-day-long event includes rides, concessions, fais-do-dos, live music, a cookoff, and much more. Gueydan Duck Festival

This festival is sure to make you quack-up. The Gueydan Duck Festival will be taking place August 25 through 28 complete with pageants, duck calling contests, skeet shooting, carnival rides, and plenty of music. This is sure to be a good time for the entire family. The festival is located at 404 Dallas Guidry Road in Gueydan. Glow in the Cro Balloon Festival

You can take fun to new heights at Glow in the Cro, Carencro's hot air balloon festival. If you like to ride, watch, or both, this is the place to be. Admission is $10 for anyone 13 or older. The event will start at 4 p.m. September 2.  The 'glow' will begin at 7:30 each night. Original Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Festival

Celebrating its 40th year, this festival embraces the music and culture of zydeco. This two-day festival will begin with a dance party September 2 at 9 p.m. The zydeco festival will have a parade, arts and crafts vendors, food trucks, and some of the best zydeco music around. The festival will take place at 1939 W. Landry St. in Opelousas. Find more information about the Zydeco Festival at www.zydeco.org

Sugar Cane Festival

One of the longest-running festivals in the area, the 79th annual Sugar Cane Festival is back in full force this year. You'll find events ranging from 5k runs to cookoffs and decorating competitions. There is a kickoff Friday August 19 but, the festival will officially begin September 22 - 25.
