Norwell’s Jennifer Coolidge nabbed her first Emmy nomination Tuesday for her work on the social satire “The White Lotus,” and Milton’s Jen Statsky earned her second nod for writing the smash comedy “Hacks.”

Both shows air on HBO and were top nominees for the 2022 prime-time Emmy Awards, announced Tuesday by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “The White Lotus” grabbed 20 nominations and “Hacks” tallied 17.

In her reaction statement, Coolidge called her nomination an “incredible surprise” and said, “It feels like Christmas today.”

She was nominated alongside co-stars Connie Britton, Alexandra Daddario, Natasha Rothwell and Sydney Sweeney. "I love those girls. They’re the greatest group and so talented," Coolidge said.

Created by Mike White, “The White Lotus,” follows a group of affluent vacationers (Daddario, Britton, Sweeney, Jake Lacey, Steve Zahn) at a luxurious Hawaiian resort.

Coolidge is nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a limited series for her turn as Tanya McQuoid, a lonely and clingy train wreck who arrives on the island paradise to spread her mother’s ashes.

Statsky, a 2004 graduate of Milton High School, co-created “Hacks” with Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs. They won the Emmy last year for outstanding writing for a comedy series, beating out the favorite, "Ted Lasso."

The show explores the complicated relationship between a fading veteran comedian, Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), and the struggling young writer (Hannah Einbinder) called upon to punch up her material.

Statsky attended the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She’s written for “The Good Place,” “Parks and Recreation” and “Broad City.”

Coolidge, well-known for her cougarlicious role as "Stifler's mom" in the bawdy teen comedy "American Pie," is enjoying a career resurgence after her acclaimed turn in “The White Lotus.”  Upcoming are “Shotgun Wedding,” playing the mother-in-law-to-be of Jennifer Lopez in the romantic comedy that will stream on Amazon Prime; and two Netflix projects, the movie “We Have a Ghost” and the Ryan Murphy series “The Watcher.” She’ll also return for the second season of “The White Lotus,” and reprise her role as Reese Witherspoon’s BFF, Paulette, in “Legally Blonde 3.”

A busy character actress, Coolidge has long been a scene-stealer. She had memorable roles in Christopher Guest's improv mocumentary "Best in Show" and last year’s Christmas romantic comedy “Single All the Way." On television, she played provocative Polish neighbor Sophie Kachinsky on the sitcom "2 Broke Girls."

Coolidge is a graduate of Norwell High School. She did summer stock at Priscilla Beach Theatre in Plymouth and trained at the legendary Los Angeles improv company The Groundlings, and has also appeared on the iconic sitcoms "Seinfeld," "Sex and the City" and "Friends." Her film work includes "Promising Young Woman," "Swan Song," "Like a Boss,"  “Mascots,” "Gentlemen Broncos," "Austenland" and "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day."

In 2002, she told Norwell High School graduates in her commencement address that she may be the only person ever to be fired from "Baywatch," and that she once lost an MTV job because she was in the bathroom. But those failures led to the role in "American Pie," she said. As a Norwell High student, Coolidge said she was someone who could have been voted "either most likely to fall asleep or fall down the stairs."

In other local Emmy connections, Netflix's "Selling Sunset," which follows elite L.A. real estate brokers, including Scituate native Emma Hernan, is nominated in the unstructured reality program category. Showtime's "Ray Donovan: The Movie" co-stars Brockton native Pooch Hall and is up for best television movie. It was partially filmed in South Boston.

The Emmy Awards will be handed out Sept. 12 and will air on NBC, with a host yet to be announced.
