🌱 Fees For Sidewalks + Rent Control + Mercury Returns As Funky As Ever

Rise and shine, Denver! Let's get you started this Saturday with everything you need to know going on in Denver today.

Saturday's weather: Mostly cloudy and cooler. High: 58 Low: 36.

Here are the top five stories in Denver today:

  1. Denver advocates demand Denver enact property fee for new sidewalks. We know that across Denver, the city's sidewalk network has some serious gaps – usually in poorer neighborhoods – but is burdening property owners with another fee the way to solve the problem? (Westword)

  2. Carbon-positive hotel coming to Denver's Civic Center. Urban Villages' Populous Hotel breaks ground at 14th and Colfax with an intriguing design, and a commitment to be "carbon-positive," whatever that means. (9News)

  3. Rent control for Colorado's mobile home parks appears to be doomed. Gov. Jared Polis has threatened to veto, if passed, a bill that aims to protect mobile home park residents from large hikes in rent. (CPR)

  4. Denver restaurants serving up Taco Bell-inspired meals. I'm suprised no one picked up the mexican pizza that was phased out in 202o by Taco Bell (but is now set to return this May.) (5280)

  5. Mercury Cafe returns with new ownership, and its customers are coming back too. The COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on Denver's restaurants, now customers are returning to the restaurant long-known for its funky décor and social justice bent. (Denverite)
