Felicity Huffman is requesting for her passport to be returned to her possession as the end of her probation nears for her involvement in the college admissions scandal.

According to court documents filed Wednesday and obtained by USA TODAY, Huffman's passport was surrendered during her initial appearance and is now being held by the United States Probation and Pre-Trial Services Department.

The actress, 57, who was the first parent to serve time in the college admissions scandal, has been under probation following her release from the Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin, California in October 2019.

The documents state Huffman will "shortly complete the period of supervised release the Court imposed" and has "already completed all other aspects of the sentence the Court imposed."

Huffman was sentenced to 14 days in prison, a $30,000 fine, supervised release for one year and 250 hours of community service. Huffman served her time in a low-security prison near the San Francisco Bay area that houses 1,227 female inmates.

Although Huffman may be looking forward to her newfound freedom, travel plans for many have been upended due to the coronavirus pandemic. Her passport request may be a sign, however, that Huffman is eyeing her return to acting.

Huffman's request does not seem out of the ordinary, since individuals must submit a request for the return of surrendered passports, according to the U.S. Department of State. According to the United States District Court Pretrial Services Office for the Southern District of New York's passport policy, for example, defendants who are sentenced to probation must have their attorney petition the sentencing judge to have the passport returned.

In April 2019, Huffman pleaded guilty to participating in the college admissions scandal, paying $15,000 to have someone correct her daughter's SAT and boost her score on the test. Her score improved to a 1420 as a result of the cheating, up 400 points from when she took the PSAT by herself the previous year.

During her sentencing in September 2019, Huffman teared up as she recalled to the judge driving her daughter to the Los Angeles testing center where the cheating occurred and her "eternal shame" for not turning around.
