Felicity Huffman Has Been Sentenced to 14 Days in Jail for College Cheating Scandal
Felicity Huffman is going to prison...but just for two weeks. TMZ reports that the Desperate Housewives actress has been sentenced by a judge this afternoon to "14 days in jail, a $30,000 fine, one year of supervised release, and 250 hours of community service."
Huffman pled guilty to paying $15,000 to doctor an SAT score for her oldest daughter.
According to TMZ, Huffman told the judge when she took the floor earlier that "I am deeply sorry to the students, parents, colleges and universities impacted by my actions. I have inflicted more damage (on her daughter) than I could've ever imagined."
She said that "I was frightened, I was stupid and I was so wrong. I am deeply ashamed of what I have done."
Huffman isn't the only celebrity named in the college admission cheating scandal: Lori Loughlin was as well. Loughlin, unlike Huffman, did not take a plea deal. She faces a 40-year maximum jail sentence for allegedly paying $500,000 with her husband Mossimo Giannulli to make it appear their two daughters Olivia Jade and Isabella were rowing team recruits to guarantee their admission to the University of Southern California. They will fight their charges, which include indictments of money laundering and conspiracy to commit fraud, later this fall.
At the beginning of September, Us Weekly reported that Loughlin regretted not accepting a plea deal when she could. "Lori was inclined to take the deal, but Mossimo said it would ruin both of their careers," a source told the outlet. (Giannulli is a designer.)
