Felina in Ridgewood has a new chef (again)

Joe Tartamella, the former chef at Allegory, the modern restaurant inside the MC Hotel in Montclair, has left that kitchen to become executive chef at Ridgewood's Felina.

He replaces Massimo Sola, a Michelin star chef from Italy, who late last year was hired by Felina, an Italian restaurant and catering facility ensconced in an old bank.

Both kitchens have seen their share turnover of executive chefs.

Sola had replaced Carlos Valdez, who had a short stint at Felina, which opened in 2019 with founding four-star chef Anthony Bucco.

Tartamella, who had been the third chef for MC Hotel in four years, was an executive chef for Harvest Restaurant Group, working in the company's Trap Rock Restaurant & Brewery in Berkeley Heights, Tabor Road Tavern in Morris Plains and Roots Steakhouse in Ridgewood, before joining Felina in recent weeks.

Felina is owned by the Landmark Hospitality Group, which also owns properties such as the Liberty House located in Liberty State Park, and the Ryland Inn.

Sydney Engel, a public relations specialists who works with MC Hotel, confirmed that Allegory is searching for new kitchen chief.

"We will announce the name of a new chef in the upcoming weeks," Engel said.
