Felon avoids prison time for 2023 shooting
JOPLIN, Mo. — A convicted felon will not go to prison for shooting another man in the shoulder last July.
Dylan Burns, 29, pleaded guilty to first degree assault in Jasper County Monday.

The judge gave him a 15-year sentence and then suspended that sentence, placing Burns on five years supervised probation. As part of the plea agreement prosecutors also dropped a charge of armed criminal action.
Burns admitted to shooting another man with a 9mm pistol as that man ran away from him after a confrontation at a residence in Carterville.
When the shooting happened last year, Burns was on probation for drug charges.
