Female pedestrian, 62, struck and killed by pickup truck in Summerfield
SUMMERFIELD — A female pedestrian was killed Friday night when she was struck by a pickup truck. Here's what we know about the crash:
Where? Along Southeast 138th Street, near Southeast 47th Avenue in Summerfield.
What happened? Florida Highway Patrol troopers said an older model Dodge pickup truck was traveling north on 47th Avenue. The pedestrian was walking south on the road on the right portion of the northbound lane, facing traffic.
FHP officials said the truck hit the victim. The vehicle stopped, officials said.
Who was in the vehicle? The driver was a 72-year-old man from Belleview. His 57-year-old son, also from Belleview, was a passenger. The driver voluntarily gave a blood sample for testing.
Information on the victim: Authorities said the woman was 62 years old and from Summerfield.
Times: James Lucas, spokesman for Marion County Fire Rescue, said his agency was assigned the call at 6:01 p.m., arrived at 6:05, and pronounced the victim dead at 6:08.
Roadway conditions: The area where the woman was hit was dark with no lighting. Officials said she was wearing jeans and a light colored sweater.

Traffic deaths: The death was the second in less than 24 hours on Marion County roads. Thursday night, troopers were on the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 that killed one person and injured eight others.
Friday's traffic fatality was the 78th for the year in Marion. The figure does not include deaths in the cities of Belleview, Dunnellon or Ocala. At this time last year, the number of traffic deaths in the county was 82. The 83rd death was on Nov. 22. In 2022, troopers recorded 99 traffic deaths.
