Hey, people of Denver! It's me again, Amber Fisher, your host of the Denver Daily. I'm bringing you the latest news about crime in Union Station, DUI deaths in our state, a local nightclub that could lose its license and COVID-19 mitigation.

First, today's weather:

Could Denver's 232-day streak of unmeasurable snow be broken today? Some snow is falling this morning, so we'll see! High: 35 Low: 20.

Here are the top stories in Denver today:

1. Former Denver Broncos star wide receiver Demaryius Thomas has died at age 33. As of late Friday night, no details about his death had been released. Thomas announced his retirement from the NFL in June. (Fox 31)

2. Fentanyl was found in a Union Station bus terminal bathroom, CBS reports. The deadly opioid was found in trace amounts that were not considered to be dangerous, but five elevators and two bathrooms were closed out of "an abundance of caution," officials said. Authorities are trying to curb drug use in the bathrooms, which will remain closed until at least the end of the year. (CBS Denver via Patch)
3. 'Don't Be A Blitzen' campaign: Already in 2021, there have been more than 220 deaths caused by impaired drivers in our state, Colorado State Patrol said. Last December, troopers charged more than 300 drivers with DUIs. In its new campaign, the agency urges people to plan ahead before drinking. (Patch)
4. Denver's Beta Nightclub is accused of consistently violating city laws and regulations, and city officials are now recommending that the club be stripped of its liquor license. The club has violated last call regulations, fire codes, licensing laws and drug distribution laws, city officials said. (FOX 31 Denver)
5. Colorado Newsline looked at how three Colorado colleges and universities have tackled COVID-19 management — from hiring student 'enforcers,' to conducting thousands of tests, to vaccine requirements. (Colorado Newsline via Patch)

I've covered high-profile court cases, civil rights abuses, mass shootings, natural disasters and major crimes — but also countless happy news stories about kindness, innovation and resilience.
