Fenway Sports Group puts Premier League giant Liverpool up for sale

English Premier League giant Liverpool has been put up for sale, according to Fenway Sports Group, which also owns the Boston Red Sox.

In a statement, FSG announced Monday that it’s inviting offers to purchase the club, which recently won its first Premier League title under current ownership.

“There have been a number of recent changes of ownership and rumors of changes in ownership at EPL clubs and inevitably we are asked regularly about Fenway Sports Group’s ownership in Liverpool,” ownership said in a statement. “FSG has frequently received expressions of interest from third parties seeking to become shareholders in Liverpool. FSG has said before that under the right terms and conditions we would consider new shareholders if it was in the best interests of Liverpool as a club.”

Liverpool currently sits eighth in the Premier League, 15 points behind first-place Arsenal.

Under the leadership of Red Sox principal owner John Henry, FSG recently purchased the Pittsburgh Penguins.
