One of the most memorable vehicles of the big screen from the 1980s, the “Ferris Bueller car” is on display at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation through a partnership with Hagerty Drivers Foundation, which manages the National Historic Vehicle Register.

The 1985 Modena Spyder that appeared in the 1986 American teen comedy film "Ferris Bueller’s Day Off," starring Matthew Broderick, Mia Sara and Alan Ruck, is on display in a special exhibit that will showcase a different ,culturally significant vehicle from the National Historic Vehicle Register every six months.

The California-built car was made for the film as a replica of a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder when the genuine vehicle proved too expensive, according to the museum.

“Writer-director John Hughes secured three replicas from Modena Design & Development to be used during filming. The display vehicle was used for wide shots and the memorable scene in which two parking-garage attendants jump the car through the air during a joyride in Chicago,” The Henry Ford announced. “Since filming, the vehicle changed ownership and received various updates and modifications, but in 2010, the Spyder’s current owner returned it to its movie specifications.”

The 1985 Modena Spyder is the 22nd of 32 automobiles to be commemorated and documented as a vehicle of national heritage under the National Historic Vehicle Register.

Vehicles that will be displayed in the exhibit will be a mix of cars borrowed from private owners museums, according to Melissa Foster, a spokesperson for The Henry Ford.

Deadline.com reported last month that Paramount Pictures plans a spinoff of "Ferris Bueller’s Day Off" that could put the iconic car back in the limelight. "Sam and Victor’s Day Off" would follow the same-day adventure of the so-called valets who took the "Ferrari" on a joyride.

Access to pop-up museum display is included with admission to Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation. Go to thf.org for more information.
