Ferris State to hold seminars on FAFSA changes

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Ferris State University is hosting two free seminars to help prospective students and their families get a better understanding of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid — more commonly known as FAFSA — and the federal financial aid process.

The two seminars will be held in early February, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 7 and from 11 a.m. to noon on Feb. 8. The first seminar will be more comprehensive and focused on first-time FAFSA applicants. The second seminar will focus on recent changes to the process. Regardless, anyone is welcome to attend either event.

The FAFSA window for the 2024-25 school year will include several changes. The formula to determine financial aid eligibility is changing and more people are expected to qualify for Pell Grants.

Melanie Mulder, the associate director of Scholarship and Financial Aid at Ferris State, said the seminars are a part of the university’s mission to help its students find success.

“These webinars are part of Ferris State’s ongoing efforts to support students in achieving their educational goals without financial barriers,” Mulder said in a statement. “We are here to help students, no matter what their situation is.”

FSU financial aid counselors will also be available to answer questions and can schedule virtual and in-person meetings. Registration for the seminars is available now through Ferris State’s website.
