The first weekend in August provides the opportunity to celebrate Rockford Peaches, female entrepreneurs, your Italian heritage and see Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias.

USA Baseball Women’s National Team

What: Neighborhood residents, baseball enthusiasts and the Rockford region are invited to enjoy this community celebration featuring kids' activities, tee/wiffle ball derby, local food trucks and vendors, a DJ and baseball themed surprises. The USA Baseball WNT will take the Beyer Stadium field at 5 p.m. for exhibition baseball against Cangelosi Sparks North.

What: The Rockford Art Deli is celebrating the USA Baseball Women’s National Team playing in Rockford by letting you choose one of the store's Peaches designs to get printed. 44th Annual Festa Italiana

What: The Greater Rockford Italian American Association hosts the 44th annual Festa Italiana Fundraiser. The event features carnival rides and games for toddlers through adults, with all-day wrist bands available, a kid's craft area, and live entertainment. There will also be bands, Italian dancers, bocce, mass and lots of food and beverages. Free parking. Rain or shine.

What: World-renowned stand-up comedian and actor Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias is hitting the road this summer with his Back on Tour.

National Ski Championships

What: The Loves Park Ski Broncs host the D2 Show Ski National Championships. The Division 2 show is a national water ski competition featuring individual and team performers. Show skiing combines elements of all water ski disciplines and typically features several acts choreographed to music and built around a theme that tells a story. In competitive show skiing, each club has one hour to present a theatrical performance on water skis. Individual competitors will compete in the qualifying round which includes a series of water ski maneuvers such as swivel, doubles and jump tricks. After the individual competition, the water ski teams will compete to determine best in show.

Garden Explorers

What: Garden Explorers is a ten-week interactive parent/child activity. Each week features a story time led by a community leader, followed by an activity, craft, or children’s music. Garden Explorers is appropriate for four to six-year-olds, but children of all ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult guardian at all times.

What: We've reached the halfway point of the City Market season which means there are some new vendors to see. Last week's market was canceled due to severe weather/heat. The Roaring '20s

What: Explore the Prohibition era as costumed interpreters and period re-enactors will bring the 1920s to life. Guests will learn about the distilling processes common in the 1920s, and see cultural touchstones of the era such as flappers, federal agents, gangsters and jazz musicians. The museum will feature Model A and Model T Car Clubs, "old time" baseball with K Cancer, drinks from Pig Minds Brewing and food from Mary’s Market Cafe. The 1920s Bearcat Band will perform.

The Mantel: U.S. Decision to Drop the Atomic Bomb
