Festival International collectible artwork, pin and poster revealed, musicians announced

Festival International de Louisiane is back in person this spring and officials say they are planning for the best Festival to date. The 36th Annual Festival International lineup and artwork that fans have been anxiously awaiting have been revealed.

Festival 2022 will feature artists performing styles of music from more than 20 different countries and regions combined. Many of the artists who were scheduled to perform before the pandemic are excited to finally be in Lafayette in person a news release said.

“Cimafunk was one of those bands we were really looking forward to bringing here in 2020.” said programming director Lisa Stafford. “We will finally have them this year. Get ready!”

In fact, Afro-Cuban funk sensation Cimafunk was recently recognized by Rolling Stone for their album, El Alimento, in the 50 Best Albums of 2021. This group features high-energy, gritty funk-soul with eight accompanying musicians for an electrifying live show.

“Festival fans always ask for reggae, and we are giving them the best.” Stafford added. The Wailers will be returning after a few years for the big closing show on Sunday night.

On the eclectic side, groups like DahkaBrakha, a Folk Punk group from the Ukraine and Les Filles de Illigahdad, with the surprise element of rare female touareg musicians, will “leave you in a trance”.

Lil Nathan & the Zydeco Big Timers and Grammy award winning Lost Bayou Ramblers to Robert Finley, Louisiana's finest bluesman, who has toured with Dan Aubreach of the Black Keys, will be on the stages.

In addition to sharing the music lineup, the original artwork by 2022 official visual artist, Dirk Guidry, was also revealed. The large, vibrant painting is titled “Festival International Jam Band” and features dancers, musicians and a stilt-walker all grooving on stage with a colorful sea of fans dancing in front of them.

The pin and poster, which are derived directly from Guidry’s art, were also revealed over the weekend. The annual souvenirs encompass this year’s theme, “Back Together, Fest Forever.”
