It's festival season: 3 Newport County festivals highlight weekend events

Festival season is fully upon us in Newport County.

The Newport Classical Music Festival just wrapped up, and now we've got possibly the best-known of the local festivals opening Friday when the 2022 Newport Folk Festival begins. But that's not the only festival happening this weekend.

If you didn't snag tickets to the Folk Festival, you can still make it to the Island Moving Company Dance Festival or the Harp Festival in Jamestown. Or even head to Providence for a two-week festival already underway.

If festivals aren't your thing don't worry, we've got one option to help fill your calendar this weekend.

Newport Folk Festival

The annual three-day festival begins when gates open at 10 a.m. on Friday and runs through Sunday at Fort Adams State Park.

Highlights of this year's festival include Taj Mahal on Friday, Lucius on Saturday and Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris and The Roots each performing Sunday. In all, there are more than 50 acts scheduled to appear during the course of the three days.

The bad news, however, tickets for this year's festival have been sold out since the day they went on sale. The good news is there are ways to still take in the music. If you can find a boat, you can paddle, sail or power your way to the waterfront around the fort to listen along. Getting close to the fort on foot or bike will also offer the potential to listen in on the acts.
