Astronomy in the Park at Oak Grove Regional Park
Want to see the stars through a lens of a telescope? You can at Oak Grove Regional Park on Saturday, Aug. 6. If the skies are clear, volunteers from the Stockton Astronomical Society will be setting up telescopes for the public to see the wonders of the night sky.
This month you will be able to see: the moon, M13 (star cluster in Hercules), and about 11 p.m. Saturn will join the party.

Stockton Soul Food Festival
The AAACCC 13th annual Soul Food Festival comes to the Weber Point Events Center Aug. 6 with entertainment, family fun, shopping, food and more. Entertainment includes Norman & The Boyz, Tonya “Sweet” Williams, Shad Harris & Band, and more. The all-day event is free for children 12 and younger.

Annual Taste of the Delta
There will be wine, food, live music, auctions and more at the 19th annual Taste of the Delta. The event is a fundraiser for the California Delta Chambers showcasing the Delta’s wineries, restaurants and more. A souvenir glass is included with the ticket.

San Joaquin Kennel Club Annual Dog Show
Top dogs from all over the country will be competing for Best in Show all three days. There will be vendors with dog-related items as well as food vendors. The 4-6 Puppy Class is always fun to watch along with conformation, rally and obedience trials. There will be Free dog show tours as well as free information on selecting the right dog for you and your family and more.

California Garlic Festival
Garlic fries, garlic pesto pasta, and more garlic dishes can be savored at the California Garlic Festival during the two-day event.
Other than tasty garlic treats, there will be hot rods, muscle cars, and lowriders, entertainment, interactive cooking demonstrations, a farm-friendly petting zoo, a photography contest, carnival rides and more. There will even be a Miss California Garlic Festival Scholarship Pageant & Princess program.

StocktonCon Summer at Stockton Arena
An annual celebration of “all things pop-culture" with celebrity guests, artists, cosplay costume contests, and more than 200 exhibitors can all be found at the two-day event celebrating its 10th anniversary. A portion of the proceeds to benefit local charities.

'Cool Hand Luke' at the Bob Hope Theatre
The Friends of the Fox is showing "Cool Hand Luke," the 1967 prison drama starring Paul Newman at the Bob Hope Theatre this month. See if you can spot the Stockton and Delta locations where the movie was shot.
Complimentary drinks and snacks as well as a tour of the theater after the film is offered by Friends of the Fox. Dave Moreno will be at the Mighty Morton organ at 1 p.m. and master of ceremonies Matías Bombal will kick off the movie at 2 p.m.

Stockton Jazz Festival
The Stockton Jazz Festival, presented by SMA Entertainment, brings jazz lovers together at the Weber Point Events Center. Soul and new jack swing singer Tony Terry will headline the event.
Jeanette Harris, the Braxton Brothers, Steve Gray, Joel Del Rosario, Lin Rountree, and Tony Exum Jr. will also perform at the festival.

Stockton 13th Annual Bathtub Boat Race
The 13th Annual Bathtub Boat Race event at Louis Park will have several races based on the age of the participants and a team race for creative participants that build a boat big enough for two people.
Participants can use their imagination to create anything they want; the only exception is they can’t use materials from a previous boat or part of a boat.
Registrations will open on the day of the race at 10 a.m. Participants are required to wear life jackets to participate.
